History: Old Salem is a historic place for Winston Salem nc. It has a living history museum . It was declared a historic landmark in 1950.
Before Old Salem was called Old Salem the people just called it Salem. Salem was an outpost of religious freedom carved out of the North Carolina wilderness. Salem was a little town and they did not like outsiders. One day some people wanted to join the Salem town but the people of Salem did not like outsiders so they did not let them in. The outsiders just made a little village around Salem named Winston. If the people of Salem wanted to leave their town then they had to pass by Winston. The people of Salem and the people of Winston joined their towns together and the place was called Winston Salem. Aventually it became Old Salem.
Attractions: You can tour the buildings and buy baked goods from the colonial period. The cookies are the best! You can see how the colonial people made different items.
