History:
Built by German Immigrant Michael Braun in 1766, this two story Georgian - style house is the oldest structure rowan county and a good example of colonial life in America. The home was stately for its time with shaped and matched creating an impressive facade to visitors. Michael Braun built up a fortune when he lived in Rowan county back in the 1700. He was a wagon maker wheel wright general carpenter and also owned a printing press which he used to print German bibles. By the 1950's the house was endangered of being torn down to build roads. Te Braun family who changed their name to Brown and Fisher family bought the house together in order to restore the house. After renovating the house they gave it to the Rowan Museum in 1966 in the 200th year the house had been built. The Rowan museum has been able to keep the house standing for 50 plus years.
